CELLCARD REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO CHILD ONLINE SAFETY AT INTERNATIONAL JUDICIAL POLICE FORUM

Phnom Penh, Cambodia [27th Sept 2024] – Cellcard, Cambodia’s leading telecommunications provider, reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding children online at the International Judicial Police Forum held from September 25th to 27th, 2024. The company participated as a sponsor and shared its expertise in building a safer online environment for children. The event was organized by the Child Protection Unit, Cambodia National Police, and the Ministry of Justice.

With special presence and welcome by His Excellency General Moung Sothea, National Deputy Commissioner General, representing Commissioner General H.E. Sar Teth, and other participants from numerous Police Commands.

The Cambodian Children’s Fund – Child Protection Unit, a joint initiative between CCF and the Cambodian National Police, works tirelessly to bring child abusers to justice and protect vulnerable victims.

James McCabe, Director of CPU, expressed gratitude to Cellcard for its continued support and emphasized the importance of this forum in building the capacity of law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation. He highlighted the need for police officers to have the knowledge and skills to identify and apprehend offenders, while also providing victims with the necessary support within the criminal justice system.

As a responsible technology provider, Cellcard played a significant role in the forum by sharing its expertise in creating a safer online environment for children. Mr. Tang Lymeng, Head of IT Security and Compliance at Cellcard | Ezecom, underscored the crucial role of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in protecting children online. He discussed Cellcard’s capabilities in contributing to child online protection while acknowledging the legal challenges and the importance of government collaboration.

Cellcard highlighted its ability to support investigations by providing relevant information and emphasized the need for streamlined procedures to expedite the process. The company also stressed the importance of parental awareness and education to prevent children from accessing harmful content. This aligns with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication’s vision of a safer internet for children.
