Cellcard has partnered with Chinese gaming giant Moonton to host Cambodia’s next Mobile Legends tournament on May 18.
The tournament is the qualifying round for the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup giving one Cambodian team the thrill of competing in the Philippines at the end of June.
Mobile Legends is one of the top 10 grossing games in the world and the most played mobile game currently in Cambodia.
Released in 2016, the game has more than 500 million downloads, 200 million registered players and over 50 million active players per month.
The Cup in June will see Cambodia compete against eight other countries including Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
In Cambodia, Cellcard is the official sponsor of the qualifying tournament as part of its wider foray into mobile gaming.
Cellcard Chief Executive Officer Ian Watson said his team was excited to be hosting the tournament with the decision prompted by younger employees who play the game.
“We cannot underestimate the future potential of mobile gaming in Cambodia and indeed the world,” Mr Watson said.
“Mobile gaming will only get bigger as it expands and evolves with other technologies such as Augmented and Virtual Reality.
“At Cellcard we also see the educational applications for the future, especially as we move from 4G to pre5G and 5G in the near future.”
Mr Watson said the Moonton partnership followed the successful tournament held at Digital Cambodia in March with Netease, which developed Rules of Survival – another blockbuster game.
The Mobile Legends pre-qualifiers are currently underway, culminating with the May 18 event which will see four teams battle it out for the top place as well as the grand prize of $6000 USD.
The May 18 event will be held at Aeon Mall Sen Sok, from 1- 7pm.
Stay updated on the new Cellcard Play Facebook page which will announce exclusive giveaways including Mobile Legends skin packs, diamonds and premium items, as well the chance to win a new Samsung Galaxy S10 +.
