Phnom Penh – 10 June, 2022
Cambodia’s most-awarded telecommunications company recieves yet another international accolade, this time on the back of its gaming platform – Playgame.
In this year’s International Business Magazine Awards, Playgame Unlimited was entered for the gaming category and is awarded as Cambodia’s Best Esports and Arcade Games Platform 2022.
The announcement was officially made at a press conference held at the Cellard Head Office, coinciding with the launch of another gaming innovation – Playgame Cloud – Cambodia’s first cloud gaming platform.
“We are delighted to receive this award. It’s a testament to the hard work carried out at Cellcard to create a platform for the nation’s constantly growing online gaming community . It shows we have our finger on the pulse when it comes to knowing what our customers want, and we will do what it takes to deliver award-winning products.” – Cellcard CEO Simon Perkins
Cellcard has been deeply involved in developing Cambodia’s Esports scene since 2018, building programmes and partnerships to cater to the needs of a then budding gaming community in the Kingdom.
Cellcard Playgame is a brand initiative launched in April 2020 with the intent of capturing and growing Cellcard’s youth following by tapping an underserved segment and creating a unique role and relevance for the brand.
The introduction of Cellcard Playgame came with a full suite of social media platforms, an extensive pool of gamer influencers, teams, casters and streamers to support the brand’s need for unique content and representation, and the Playgame Unlimited data bundles.
The Playgame web-based platform provides for the holistic needs of the segment and is open to all gamers, regardless of SIM card they use. The platform includes data bundles, a virtual shop offering both lifestyle and gaming products from major brands such as Steam, Discord, Netflix among others, it’s own currency – Playcoins, and tournament registration and access.
The Playgame Unlimited bundle, on the other hand, provided unlimited data to play a growing number of popular esports titles, which now includes Mobile Legends Bang Bang, PUBG, Free Fire, Rules of Survival and Bullet Angel under the proposition of a 5-in-1 unlimited gaming bundle.
Further developments included an exclusive contract with the Esports Federation of Cambodia that led to a series of on-ground and virtual esports tournaments and opportunities for local esports teams to participate, represent and be recognized both locally and internationally. The partnership has enabled the country’s gaming sector to gain huge traction thanks to regular tournaments and championships hosted jointly by Cellcard and EFC.
“At Cellcard, we believe in forming strong partnerships to offer our customers unique and elevated products. We are proud to have played an instrumental role in creating a platform for Cambodia’s burgeoning online gaming community to grow. This also forms part of our ongoing commitment to support the country’s digitalisation.” – Cellcard CEO Simon Perkins
H.E. Chea Chanboribo, President of the EFC, congratulates Cellcard on its achievements and for supporting Cambodia’s Esports growth. “This award highlights the major role Cellcard has played in championing and supporting the country’s online gaming community, which will only continue to get stronger.”
Gaming star and influencer Ream Angkor added his congratulations. “This is a well-deserved award as Cellcard has been instrumental in promoting Esports across Cambodia. It’s thanks to their innovation that our community has been able to expand so quickly and be offered the opportunity to compete internationally.”
This is the third time Cellcard has won an International Business Magazine award. In 2019, it was awarded Best Mobile Network Provider Cambodia and Fastest Mobile Network Provider in 2020.
